Retrospect and Prospect of Mass Sports Development in China during the 40-year Reform and Opening-up

The past 40 years have witnessed the mass sports with Chinese characteristics, a strengthened inner impetus in its development, a relatively complete public service system for mass sports which covers both urban and rural areas, as well as a multi-dimensional governance pattern and gradually improved system of policies and regulations. On the other hand, however, there are such problems as follows:the low percentage of people taking part in physical exercise regularly, the inadequacy and imbalance of public sports services for mass sports, and the mass sports governance level yet to be improved, etc. In the new era, mass sports development should focus on the level and quality of peoples' participation in sports. The intelligence development should be taken as its direction, the equalization of basic public sports services as its key, and the improvement of the governance ability as its path, thus it can play a positive role in realizing the "two centenary goals" and constructing a "Healthy China".
