Chinese and Western Body Views: History and Logic of the Body in Moral Construction

  • Based on the body views between Chinese and western countries, the different courses of moral construction in China and the West are explained under the concept of "people first/nation(polis) first". Body education is the logical starting point of moral construction and the essence both for Chinese and the West. The different thoughts of "human first" and "nation first" in China and the West respectively are integrated with specific physical activities, thus to complete the course of individual moral construction. When body moves from individual space to public space, the public space becomes the "co-existing" society and so is perceived and accepted. The "co-existing" makes the body become a bond to maintain social morality.Under the discipline of "power", the body undertakes the responsibility of serving the political community and constructs the morality and spirit representing the whole country.
