When the Armor Being on the Body: A Study on the Actual Combat of Chinese Traditional Wushu from the Historical Perspective

  • The current modernity dilemma and practical questioning of Chinese traditional Wushu require us to return to the historical reality of "from military to Wushu", and reexamine its real appearance and the use in "practical combat". The Wushu practice logic of "armor being on the body" in ancient China revealed the giving of the inevitable defense to armor, the stressing of simple and efficient attack with armor breaking ability, as well as the physical strength and coordination, plus the thousand-time of single-action-training, which presented the appearance of Chinese traditional Wushu in actual combat of the ancient history, with multi-dimensional features. "Liuhe-Comprehensive strength", taking it as a representative of unique skills of Wushu, was invincible in the ancient battlefield. The question of "being unable to fight" today is essentially an misunderstanding caused by the forced entry of Chinese traditional Wushu into the western-led practical logic of "modern fighting".
