Problems and Solutions: Imprecision in Measurement, Analysis and Intervention on Students' Physical Health

  • In order to achieve the target of 25% of the excellent rate in students' physical health proposed by the Outline of "Healthy China 2030" Plan, it is necessary to solve the problems of the "three imprecisions" in the measurement, analysis and intervention. It is found that the "imprecision" in measuring students' physical health is due to such reasons as the mechanism paradox of schools evaluating themselves based on self-reported data when the national sports system evolves, the limitations imposed by the nature of the national system, the inadequate response of the sports system to new health issues, the lack of interdisciplinary cooperation in measurement work and home-school collaboration, and the insufficient use of advanced technology. The main reasons for the "imprecision" in analyzing students' physical health data include that data analysis at all levels is not grounded in reality. At the same time, the "imprecision" in intervention lies in the fact that units at all levels focus too much on group interventions and neglect individual interventions; group interventions lack content and methods while individual interventions are lacking or misplaced. And, there is a disconnection between interventions inside and outside of schools, as well as the lack of stable technical support. Based on the analysis of the reasons for the "three imprecisions," strategies are proposed for precise measurement, analysis, and intervention to improve students' physical health.
