Discussion on the Origin of Chinese Wushu Ethics from the Perspective of Confucianism

Abstract: As the spiritual core of Chinese Wushu culture, Chinese martial ethics is not only the carrier of Chinese morality culture but also an organic part of it, deeply influenced by Confucianism the traditional mainstream ideology. Based on the logic of observing ethics with Wushu, sourcing the origin with ethics, and arriving harmony with education, the "Five constants of Confucianism"(that is, benevolence, righteousness, manners, wisdom and credit) are selected to construct the five cognitional dimensions of Chinese martial ethics. They are the principle of benevolence and loyalty in terms of "a benevolent person loving others", the chivalrousness in terms of "acting bravely for justice", the moral cultivation in view of "knowing ethics by martial arts", being the superior man in terms of "forming ethics with wisdom", and the rules of conduct in terms of "true to one's words". In addition, the influence of Confucianism-oriented concept on martial ethics has been interpreted on the macro level.
