Abstract:
The long-standing failure to advance the discussion of the fundamental goals and content of physical education course derives from the deviation from the track of knowledge transmission and cognitive development, and the obsession with the instrumental utility of body movement while obscuring its fundamental content. Focusing on the attributes of curriculum education and its connotation in the "content" and "goals", it is believed that the fundamental content of physical education course, based on "games", consists of elements of body movement culture. Its fundamental goals should be for teachers to set appropriate teaching situations (methods and means) to intervene in students' body movement behaviors, help them transform their cognitive states to form and develop their motor cognitive abilities by transforming and integrating relevant body movement information into their bodies. The significance to build the fundamental goals and content of physical education course lies in: to clarify that there is no substitution for physical education course in "cultivating people"; to reflect the basic and general requirements for basic education; to take the needs of the country (and society), personal development, and the attributes of the curriculum carrier into account; and to highlight the embodied quality of physical education course.
