Abstract:
As the representative of the Chinese and western sports competitions, the Ritual Archery and Olympic Games are important social activities in their cultures, respectively. The comparison between the two shows that both are characteristic of social order education significance, their competition venues being the prototype of schools and a high moral level requirement for the participants. And it reflects the value of social order education and personal moral education. On the other hand, however, in the competition of "gentleman archery battle", Chinese Ritual Archery emphasizes "self-examination", creates a cultural value of "compete for moral"; while ancient Greek culture highlights equality and order among freemen, so it creates the "self-transcendence" and the cultural value of "compete for honor". The two different competitions between China and the West have a complementary contemporary sense and cultural value.
