Inheritance and Innovation of Chinese Archery from the Perspective of GlobalizationA Comparative Study Based on Traditional Archery Culture of Three Countries in East Asia

Abstract: In the context of ongoing globalization, the traditional archery cultures of East Asian countries face the impact of western modern archery culture. To awaken the public's recognition and emphasis on the revival and inheritance of Chinese traditional sports culture and to reverse the phenomenon of alienation, the archery is taken as an example. Through a global perspective and the application of cultural comparative theory, it compares the traditional archery cultures in China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea. It is found that the archery cultures of these three countries all originate from Confucianism, sharing the characteristics of "moral archery" and "ritual archery," with developed unique features in their respective countries though differing in core values, names, objects, legends and conventions. By extracting the excellent experiences of Japan and the Republic of Korea in preserving their national archery cultural symbols in response to the impact of western archery culture, the innovative ways are seeked to explore for the contemporary development of the traditional Chinese archery culture.
