Realistic Appeal, Connotation of the Times and the Innovation Strategy for China's Competitive Sports to Enhance the Ability to Win Glory for the Country

In the new phase of comprehensively building a modern socialist country, several critical factors—such as the intensifying geopolitical competition among major powers amidst unprecedented global changes, the implementation of an all-round and multi-dimensional strategy for major-country diplomacy, the realization of the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation, the high-quality development of the national economy and society, and the growing aspirations of the people for a better life—have placed new demands on China's competitive sports to enhance its capacity to bring glory to the nation. In response to the challenges and opportunities of the new era and journey, competitive sports must accelerate the transformation of traditional Olympic success models by focusing on the "dual development" innovation concept. This involves systematically enhancing international competitiveness, influence, image-building, balanced development, and the driving force for economic and social progress. By promoting the transition from a gold-medal-centric approach to comprehensive national honor and from single-value orientation to multiple-value integration, competitive sports can better fulfill their role in constructing a modernized country. To effectively improve the ability of competitive sports to bring honor to the nation and maximize their contribution to national development, this study proposes the following: scientifically designing a new version of the "Olympic Honor Plan" with systematic planning for top-level training and preparation for major international events; addressing structural contradictions in sports to expedite the construction of a balanced, coordinated, and high-quality competitive sports system; upholding the positive spirit and culture of competitive sports to shape a new national image and foster social civilization; guiding competitive sports to align more closely with the overall strategy of national diplomacy to enhance international discourse power and influence; and innovating the "great competition" development concept to strengthen the overall effectiveness of competitive sports in driving the economic and social development.
